Summer is almost here! Schools are letting out soon, and that means you’ll need to start finding some fun options. Some people travel, while others need something close to home. And here in New Hampshire, there’s plenty to do! I grew up here, and I have fond memories of summers by the lake, ocean, and hiking in the White Mountains.
So, here’s my list of 5 fun things to do this summer in New Hampshire!
Head to Hampton Beach or Rye – ocean side Fun
For me, the ocean is #1, both on this list and in my heart. The soft waves, warm sun, and fun in the sand make for a fantastic family day trip. Hampton Beach is popular, and while the boardwalk is fun the beach itself can get a little crowded. If you haven’t yet, give Wallis Sands State Beach a try! When I was younger, this is where we would go. Don’t forget some awesome beach toys, and a beach umbrella for the little ones to nap under. Enjoy a day in the sun!
McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center
Right in Concord, New Hampshire. Explore their exhibits and watch the wonder in the planetarium! Many local libraries have passes, it’s worth asking yours. We’ve frequented this center over the years, and our son really enjoys our trips!
Pick a lake, any lake! New Hampshire is filled with them, we even have an entire region dedicated to the lakes. Newfound Lake was a family favorite growing up, but really you can’t go wrong! For older kids and families, try kayaking or a fun water sport. Or, enjoy the beach with the little ones. Either way, you’ll stay cool on the hot, muggy summer days.
SEE Science Center
There is so much to do and see at the SEE Science Center in Manchester, New Hampshire. This is another place that sometimes has passes at your local library, so definitely ask! This hands-on center is great for kids.
Take a Hike
The Basin, the Flume, West Rattlesnake Mountain- the list goes on and on for New Hampshire. One thing we do every year is make a list of hikes we want to go on while we’re at home. Getting the kids outside and enjoying the view is a fantastic way to spend the day out as a family. Make sure to pack a lunch!
There you have it! My recommendations for 5 fun things to do this summer, right here in New Hampshire. I will also be taking portrait sessions all summer long, so be sure to contact me to schedule yours while the kids are out of school!
